I don't understand the theory of putting $400 glass on a $4000 camera, but it is silly. Actually, you should cheap out on any lens, but definitely so with the D3. This isn't a camera to "cheap out" on lenses.

I'm glad I bought it before the price adjusted up! However, if you want the fastest and most rugged camera around, go for it! The refurbished model worked perfectly and looked brand new! Mine had less than 400 shutter actuations when I go it! I've taken over 4000 in less than a month and the photos are amazing. The D3 is starting to take the sports/action photography sector back from Canon, which is what this camera was designed for. THE D3 IS OVERKILL FOR WEDDINGS AND PORTRAITS!!!īuy it if you want, but the D700 is probably a better choice for wedding/events shooting. I use this for weddings because I WANT to, not because I need to. On the other hand, you can easily slow down and compose an image with finesse. When you want to shoot fast, you can shoot fast (and I mean fast!). WB, ISO, etc), and even customizable "function" buttons (the "Fn" button is one of my favorites on all my Nikon cameras). There are dedicated buttons for almost everything (i.e. The best way to describe this camera is that it 'gets out of your way'.

ably want to use a tripod (instead of a monopod) with large zooms. With a large piece of glass like my 70-200/f2.8 VR, it is REALLY heavy! You can stop listening to Ken Rockwell for a moment, because you will prob. I can honestly say that from here on out, I will not use any DX camera (with the exception of my D40 for family outings) again! Don't get me wrong, the D3 is big and heavy. I got the refurbished model to add an FX camera to our bag. Anyone that has actually used a D3 will tell you that there is no comparison to any previously made Nikon (or Canon).
